Job Description

Girl Scouts is the preeminent leadership development organization for girls, dedicated to building girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place. Girl Scouts of Colorado (GSCO) has 120+ staff throughout the state who support 16,000 girl members and 10,000 adult members and volunteers to prepare girls to create unique leadership paths, ignite change and share a worldwide sisterhood through girl-led traditions and new experiences.

GSCO has nine properties and five offices across the state. Our properties include two beautiful resident camps located near Denver and Colorado Springs, a rustic mountain ranch that borders Rocky Mountain National Park, an outdoor program center and indoor meeting space in Grand Junction, mountain lodges inside San Isabel National Forest and near Genesee Mountain Park, and a cabin inside Garden of the Gods. Our properties host program opportunities for overnight camps, Girl Scout troop camps and events, family camps, school group programming, rentals to community groups and fellow non-profit groups, rentals to the public for weddings, family reunions and other events.

Reporting to the CEO, the Chief People and Culture Officer is responsible for overseeing, enhancing, and maintaining the council's People and Culture department ("P & C"). As part of the senior leadership team, the CPCO takes a leadership role in creating, implementing, and managing strategies for legally sound P & C practices and policies that will support strategic business goals and fulfill the organization's workforce needs, including recruitment, employee benefits, employee engagement, evaluation, professional development, and personnel policies. This role is accountable for ensuring achievement of council overall strategic plan and that the culture aligns with the GSCO mission. It is critical that this person is able to interact with all levels of the organization, respond well to pressure, is resourceful and efficient, and maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality. This position serves as lead functional subject matter expert.

This role interacts with other senior level staff and the CEO and works to deliver the objectives of the board of directors in support of the GSCO mission. In a diverse and history rich organization, this individual needs a strong interpersonal skill set, the ability to navigate a multi-layered organization, and the ability to interpret standards/rules and facilitate problem solving with staff and volunteers.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: VP of Human Resources and Employee Development

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Proactively lead the strategy and execution of all people and culture activities to support organizational growth, including hiring, employee operations, employee experience, compensation, coaching, talent development, DEI, and organizational development. Own, create, and execute a strategic talent roadmap with a people development initiative centered around best-in-class initiatives and developed in collaboration with appropriate leaders.
  2. Manage, mentor, and continuously develop the department into a highly performing, highly engaged team.
  3. Develop innovative solutions to increase talent diversity in support of council strategy.
  4. Serve as a leader of culture and engagement, ensuring a well understood mission, vision, and values that are lived and felt throughout the organization and drive strong levels of employment engagement.
  5. Design and execute a comprehensive compensation and benefits approach that supports acquisition and retention of top talent.
  6. Partner with the senior leadership team to ensure alignment between each department and P&C, bringing a solutions-oriented, collaborative approach to problem solving.
  7. Collaborative partner to the senior leadership and operational leadership teams, ensuring alignment between each department and P&C by providing insightful, solutions-oriented and empathetic problem solving.
  8. Manage P&C operating budget, including employee salaries and benefits.
  9. Leverage data and systems thinking to optimize and guide decisions with respect to hiring, talent development programs, and retention. Identify Key Performance Indicators and assess council's success and market competitiveness based on those metrics.
  10. Serve as a lead for all P&C-related policies and procedures to ensure consistency across council.
  11. Work extensively with the DEI Engagement Director to assist in developing, executing, and assessing the delivery of diversity, equity, and inclusion engagement strategies.
  12. Understand and communicate appropriate legislative laws and ensure compliance.
  13. Handle personnel-related issues.
  14. Oversee Culture Committee composed of staff members; develop and implement a proactive plan to foster a culture of Better Together throughout

EDUCATIONAL OR FORMAL TRAINING

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience with eight years of directly related work experience, and at least ten years of leadership/management experience.
  • Experience working directly with people of diverse racial, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Graduate degree in human resource management OR equivalent professional experience preferred.
  • Human resources certification of SPHR from HRCI or SHRM-SCP from SHRM required.
  • Experience building and supporting high-functioning teams are essential.

Salary:

  • This position pays a range of $105,000-$150,000 annually plus benefits.
